Professional Fundraiser
North Canterbury Radio Trust (Compass FM)
Part-time • Flexible hours • Remote/hybrid • Contract role
3month fixed-term contract (approx. 20 hours per week. Potential to extend
contract).
Contractor preferred (PAYE negotiable).

Compass FM is North Canterbury’s community radio station — broadcasting local
news, music, events, stories, and connecting across Waimakariri, Hurunui and
Kaikōura on 104.9 & 103.7 FM and online. Operated by the North Canterbury Radio
Trust, Compass FM is a charitable, non-profit station that exists to serve the
community.

Like many community organisations, the station has been significantly impacted by
the post Covid financial downturn. Reduced business advertising has placed
pressure on the Trust’s financial sustainability, and we now need to expand our
funding base beyond traditional advertising and core grants.
To help secure Compass FM’s future, we are establishing a new Professional
Fundraiser role — our first dedicated fundraising position.

About the Role
In this part time role, you will lead the development and implementation of a
fundraising plan to diversify and strengthen our income streams.
You will:
- Build and maintain relationships with funders, programme sponsors, current
donors, and community partners.
- Identify, approach and secure new donors.
- Develop and deliver fundraising activities, campaigns, bequest initiatives etc.
- Develop clear, engaging communications to raise the station’s visibility.
- Identify and secure new grant funding opportunities, including preparing
well crafted grant applications and accountability reports.
- Maintain a grants and fundraising calendar with forecasts and deadlines.
You will report directly to the Board. If the position is successful and continues past
the initial three-month contract, the reporting line may change to the Station
Manager.

This is a flexible position of approximately 20 hours per week, with hybrid working
options for home or at our Rangiora studio/office. The schedule will be determined
by tasks or team requirements, balancing personal flexibility with needs-based
attendance, including in-person collaboration for meetings and connection.
A Trust vehicle is available for funder engagement.

What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience and a successful track record in fundraising, including
grant writing and relationship development.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and proactively.
- Passion for community wellbeing and connectedness.
- Experience in the charity or community sector is an advantage.

Why This Role Matters
Compass FM provides trusted, local, community centered broadcasting — a vital
service that strengthens local identity, supports community resilience, and keeps
people connected.
This role will directly contribute to the long term sustainability of this important
community asset.
